GCU hosts Seattle U in its fourth WAC game of the season. The Lopes are coming off a three-set sweep over California Baptist on Thursday night.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- UNDEFEATED AT HOME: The Lopes are 12-0 at home in the combination of last season and the current one. Overall, GCU is on a 14-match winning streak that dates back to 2019.
- SECOND IN THE WAC: Junior middle blocker Annabelle Kubinski is second in the WAC for hitting percentage with .398. Fifth-year libero Teagan DeFalco is second in the WAC in digs per set at 4.85. Junior setter Klaire Mitchell is second in assists per set with 9.77.
- VS. SEATTLE U: GCU is 4-1 at home against the Redhawks in the last five matches and 3-0 at home in those matches.
SCOUTING
Seattle U comes to GCU Arena with a 3-10 record with an 0-2 mark in WAC play. The Redahwks and Lopes played two similar opponents in Eastern Washington and UTEP. Seattle dropped both of those matches while the Lopes won both. The Redhawks have lost each of their WAC matches in straight sets. In their home opener and WAC opener, they fell to Chicago State and then dropped their second match to New Mexico State in Las Cruces.
Senior Eve Kerschenbaum leads Seattle U in kills (115) and points (122.5) on the season while starting all but one match. Fellow outside hitter Amaris Carter has a team-best 3.03 kills per set and 3.38 points per set. The junior has played in nine matches and made eight starts. With an average of 5.17 assists per set and 243 assists, graduate student Darian Goins leads the team. Goins is also second in service aces with eight. Freshman defensive specialist Erin Goya has a team-best 13 service aces with an average of 0.31 per set. Katlyn Sipes, the Redhawks libero, has a team-best 3.50 digs per set with a total of 147. The freshman has the most total attempts for receptions with 245 with a .947 reception percentage. Senior middle blocker Julia Queiroz has a team best 28 total blocks and five block solos.
The Redhawks traveled to Las Cruces, New Mexico, to take on the Aggies on Thursday night. In the first set, Seattle was within three of NMSU but Seattle U was swept 25-22, 25-18, 25-20. Seattle U was dominated in all categories, but Kerschenbaum recorded a team-best 10 kills while Kylie Waters and Katlyn Sipes each made a team-best 11 digs.
