Potts named to Lone Star Conference Hall of Honor

Grand Canyon volleyball head coach, Kendra Potts, was selected as an inductee into the Lone Star Conference Hall of Honor on Thursday afternoon.

Potts will enter her third season as GCU head volleyball coach in the 2026 season after being named the seventh head coach in program history. Potts ranks ninth among active D1 coaches with a career record of 161-48 (.770). In 2025, the Lopes' reached the Quarterfinal of the Mountain West Championship in their inaugural season in the conference. The Lopes delivered one of the nation's top blocking units. GCU set its Division I era record with 515 block assists and recorded the second-most total blocks in program history (312), ranking 17th nationally in total blocks and 21st in blocks per set (2.67). Under Potts, freshman setter Bella Nunez added a dynamic all-around presence, ranking third nationally with nine triple-doubles.

Potts is joining the LSC Hall of Honor in the Class of 2026 as the 66th inductee. The inductees are chosen by a panel of athletic administrators throughout the league based on individual which distinguishes outstanding individuals who have brought pride and honor to the conference through their contributions as an athlete or who have demonstrated a long-term commitment to the betterment of the conference as a coach or administrator.

"Kendra's success as both an LSC volleyball student-athlete and head coach are unrivaled," LSC Commissioner Jay Poerner said. "She followed up a legendary playing career at WT with an even more prolific coaching stint, capping things off with a national championship in 2022."

Potts had an impressive playing career for West Texas A&M volleyball, finishing as a three-time All-American and the LSC's all-time assists leader. She was also named to the LSC's 75th Anniversary Team. In her senior campaign in 2003, Potts earn LSC Offensive Player of the Year and Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame Volleyball Player of the Year accolades.

Over her four-year playing career, the Lady Buffs went 129-16 overall, including 39-1 in league action with four NCAA tournament appearances and a pair of regional championships (2000 and 2003). She finished her career as just the 12th person in NCAA Division II history to reach 6,000 career assists as she currently ranks 20^th in Division II history with 6,087 assists.

She returned to her alma mater in December of 2018 as the 15th head coach in Wes Texas history.

Potts went 124-24 (.839) in five seasons leading WT. She developed eight All-Americans, went 14-3 in NCAA Division II tournament matches and won her final three LSC tournaments. The Lady Buffs claimed the program's fourth NCAA Division II national championship in 2022, followed by a trip to the national finals in 2023. She was named the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Coach of the Year in 2022.

The Potts' lead Lopes open the season in College Station against the reigning National Champion Texas A&M squad on August 28th before the first home match takes place on September 4th against Louisiana Monroe.
