Schimmer, Prokop named Preseason All-WAC

Conference coaches pick Lopes to finish 4th
The Grand Canyon women's soccer team was well represented on the Preseason All-WAC team with junior midfielder Marleen Schimmer and sophomore forward Lindsey Prokop being chosen for it by conference coaches.

"Our soccer family feels honored and blessed to have had two of our family members selected to this great preseason honor," GCU head coach Chris Cissell said. "Schimmy and Prokop are great players and people and are very well deserving of this prestigious award. Our soccer family is excited to begin the season."

Prokop, the reigning WAC Freshman of the Year, followed Cissell from Kansas City to transfer to GCU during the offseason. The Omaha, Nebraska, native appeared in 19 games for the Roos, scoring eight goals and three assists for 19 points. Prokop led all Kansas City freshmen in goals, points, assists, shots, shots on goal and game-winning goals.

Schimmer joined the Lopes from Arizona State over the offseason. In two seasons with the Sun Devils, Schimmer appeared in 35 games with 28 starts and scored 11 goals. Her 16 points for ASU last season was second most on the team.

GCU was picked to finish fourth in the Preseason WAC Coaches' Poll, earning 31 points. Seattle U, the reigning WAC regular-season and tournament champion, led the way with 46 points but was closely followed by Utah Valley with 44. California Baptist rounded out the top three with 37 points. Newcomer Dixie State was ranked seventh with 13 points.

GCU is set to begin its season with an exhibition against Benedictine on Friday at 7 p.m. in GCU Stadium.
