Rock Hudgens will join the Grand Canyon baseball program as its director of analytics and operations, Lopes head coach
Andy Stankiewicz announced on Tuesday.
"We've created a new position as director of analytics and operations, and we are very excited to bring Rock in to fill that role," Stankiewicz said. "Rock has both a playing background and experience in professional baseball operations with the Houston Astros. He is very talented in the area of analytics, and we feel like he will help GCU Baseball move forward in data and analytics for our players. As a player, Rock was a leader on and off the field and we are excited to see him do the same in our program."
Hudgens, a Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro High School graduate, was a member of the baseball team at nearby Arizona Christian University. He spent the summer of 2017 working in clubhouse operations for the Houston Astros.
"It's an honor to work with the caliber of excellence that Coach Stankiewicz brings to the table," Hudgens said. "I see GCU Baseball as my new home. I am eager to work alongside the coaching staff and serve our players to bring a championship to GCU this year."
Hudgens has a background in software engineering and coding while most recently working with web interfaces and user experience.
With the rise of analytics in baseball, Hudgens will help oversee the program's use and development through data. He also will oversee the day-to-day operations of the program, including scheduling, travel and finances.
Hudgens graduated from Arizona Christian in Business Administration with minors in Management and Biblical Studies. On campus, he was an active member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, leadership council and YoungLife.
