Okyere, Schwartz named Student-Athletes of Month

Grand Canyon student-athletes have their sights set on more than just winning on the competition field. With the help of the Academic and Student-Athlete Development staff, the Lopes are looking to provide leadership in the classroom and the community in addition to their roles on their respective teams.

Each month, GCULopes.com features two Lopes excelling in all three of these phases. Congratulations to the honorees for January 2020: Jorden Okyere and Alyson Schwartz.

Jorden Okyere Track and Field Sophomore \|\| Phoenix, Ariz.	Alyson Schwartz Track and Field Junior \|\| Phoenix, Ariz.

In the classroom Current overall GPA: 3.26 Major: B.S. in Sports Management	In the classroom Current overall GPA: 3.88 Major: B.S. in Biomedical Engineering
In the community Okyere was a race participant in the Run to Fight Children's Cancer.	In the community Schwartz was a race participant in the Run to Fight Children's Cancer and helped with the Team Emory Teddy Bear Drive.
On the track Okyere set the GCU record for weight throw twice this season with his best toss of 18.03 meters, which ranks second in WAC. He also broke the GCU record for shot put for the second time this season with a mark of 17.00 meters, which also places second in the WAC.	On the track Schwartz leads the WAC in women's pole vault with a mark of 4.14 meters, which is also the leading mark in GCU history. She won WAC Field Athlete of the Week for Jan. 6-12.
