Grand Canyon men's soccer introduced 10 additions this fall, including sophomore transfer
Charles Noyelle. The midfielder from Maidstone, England, joins the Lopes after completing his first collegiate season at Tulsa.
Â
"We are glad to have Charles as a member of the GCU soccer team," GCU head coach Schellas Hyndman said. "Charles comes to us as a transfer from the University of Tulsa by way of Maidstone, England. Charles will compete for a starting position in the center midfield. Charles has a range of skills that will complete GCU in the attacking phase of the game. His vision and ball control make a great addition to our team."
Â
In his freshman season with the Hurricanes, Noyelle competed in 11 matches and started seven. He finished the season ranked third on the team in total points (six) by scoring two goals and recording two assists. His first collegiate goal was a game-winner in the 1-0 season opener against Gonzaga, his first career start. He also recorded a goal in the final match of the season against Connecticut. He earned the Tulsa honor of "Man of the Match" against Gonzaga and Connecticut.
Â
Noyelle recorded assists in wins against Lipscomb and WAC member Incarnate Word. He finished his freshman season with eight shots, putting four on goal. He also was named to the 2019-20 American Athletic Conference Academic Team.
Â
Before joining the Hurricanes, Noyelle competed for seven seasons with Gillingham Soccer Club in Kent, England. The highlight of his club career came in 2017-18, when he helped Gillingham to the Youth Alliance Merit League 1 Championship.
Â
Noyelle has been practicing with the Lopes during the fall preseason and competed for the White team during the Purple-White Scrimmage at GCU Stadium in October.
Â
"I've enjoyed my first semester here so far," Noyelle said. "Both the team and coaching staff have been so welcoming. I'm really excited to have the opportunity to play at GCU in such a beautiful stadium in front of such passionate fans. I'm looking forward to pushing myself athletically and academically in such an enjoyable environment."
