The Grand Canyon cross country team will leave Arizona for the first time this season when it runs in the Capital Cross Challenge in Sacramento, California, on Saturday.
Following an impressive outing at the Dave Murray Invitational in Tucson two weeks ago, the Lopes are ready to return after a week off from competition.
Â
At the Dave Murray Invitational, the men's team finished first by placing six runners in the top 10 and besting host Arizona and Mesa Community College. The women finished second behind strong outings from seniors
Paige Hildebrandt, who finished the 5,000-meter race in second place with a time of 18 minutes, 14.9 seconds, and
Erika Wallace, who placed sixth.
Â
The Lopes return to the Capital Cross Challenge for the second straight year, as the women reached the podium with a third-place finish last season. Hildebrandt looks to build off last year, when she finished fourth in the 6,000-meter race at the event.
Â
Competition in Sacramento begins at 11 a.m. (Arizona time) at Arcade Creek Cross Country Course.
