LAKEWOOD, Wash. – The Grand Canyon men's golf team completed the first round of the WAC Championship in fifth place Saturday at Oakbrook Golf Club.
GCU was led by junior
Jake Chanen and junior
Trevor Lampson with 1-over-par rounds of 72. Junior
Michael Salazar finished with a 74, while senior
Filip Lundell added a 76. The Lopes did not use freshman
Matthew Braley's round of 80.
With a 294 total, the Lopes are just four shots behind the favorite, Kansas City (290), to win the championship.
New Mexico State is the first-round leader with a 283 total. Utah Valley (286), Kansas City (290), Seattle U (291) and GCU (294) round out the top five.
Second-round action takes place Sunday morning at Oakbrook Golf Club.
