LAKEWOOD, Wash. – The Grand Canyon men's golf team made a big move on Sunday, moving to second place at the WAC Championship as junior
Jake Chanen fired a 67 to take the individual lead entering Monday's final round.
Defending champion and tourney favorite Kansas City leads the WAC Championship with a two-round score of 568, followed by GCU (575) and Seattle U (577). The Lopes overtook first-round leader New Mexico State, which slid to fourth place at 584.
In addition to Chanen's 67 (4 under par) on Sunday, fellow GCU junior
Michael Salazar shot a 69 to pull into a tie junior teammate
Trevor Lampson for sixth place. Lampson finished the day with an even-par 71.
Lopes freshman
Matthew Braley responded Sunday with a 74, a six-shot improvement from his first round. The team did not use senior
Filip Lundell's 75.
GCU and UMKC will be paired in the final round at Oakbrook Golf Club. The Lopes and Roos will tee off at 10 a.m. Monday.
