FRESNO, Calif. –
Alexis Linam of the Grand Canyon women's golf team had it going all day. The sophomore broke the school record by firing a 65 en route to a runner-up finish at the Fresno State Classic.
As a team, the Lopes also finished runner-up with an 867 team score. The 867 was the second-best 54-hole total in school history. The all-time record was set last season at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational (864). The previous second-best round was at the 2018 WAC Championships as the Lopes shot 868 to open the tournament.
Linam's round consisted of five birdies and an eagle for her 65. The previous top GCU rounds were held by Charlotte Jaengkit (66, 2014-15) and
Deanna Salvatori (67, 2017-18).
After starting the day in 10
th place, Linam moved up the leaderboard in a hurry, at one point tying for the lead. She finished one shot behind the medalist winner, Christine Danielsson (UC Davis).
Linam was one of three Lopes to finish in the top-10.
Courtney Vogel (216) finished in a tie for sixth place, while
Payton Fehringer (217) finished in a tie for 10
th place.
Carolina Sandstrom (224) finished in 30
th place, while
Siripatsorn Patchana (229) finished in 47
th place.
The team title went to UC Davis (856), followed by GCU (867), Santa Clara (870), Fresno State (880) and UC Riverside (885).
GCU is back in action at the WAC Championship on April 28-20 at Oakbrook Golf Club in Lakewood, Wash.
