FRESNO, Calif. – The Grand Canyon women's golf team shot a school-record round of 284 (-4) during the second round of the Fresno State Classic on Monday afternoon at Copper River Country Club. GCU sits in second place overall in the 14-team event.
GCU's record-breaking round was completed with junior
Courtney Vogel leading the way with a 68, followed by freshman
Payton Fehringer's 69, junior
Carolina Sandstrom's 73 and sophomore
Alexis Linam's 74.
Vogel (t-2), Fehringer (t-8) and Linam (t-10) are each in the top 10.
Other GCU scores through two rounds include Sandstrom (t-25) and sophomore
Siripatsorn Patchana (t-43).
The previous record for a team-low round was a 285 fired by the 2017-18 Lopes during the first round of the WAC Championship. The round was also a low round to par, as the previous mark was a -2 score set last season at The Bobcat Invitational.
UC Davis leads the event with a 570 score followed by GCU (578), Fresno State (580) and UC Riverside (582).
In the race for medalist honors, Christine Danielsson (UC Davis) leads by one shot over Vogel, Harriet Lynch (Fresno State) and Danielle Ujimori (Nevada).
The final round will take place on Tuesday morning at Copper River Country Club.
