TUCSON, Ariz. – The Grand Canyon women's golf team opened strong on the first day of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational but faded Monday at Sewailo Golf Club.
GCU was in the top five of the 17-team field after the first nine holes but fell to 10th place after the first round and finished the two-round day in 15th place.
Freshman
Payton Fehringer led the Lopes with rounds of 1-over 73 and 4-over 76, good for a 13
th-place standing to enter Tuesday's final round.
Sophomore
Siripatsorn Patchana is tied for 62nd after rounds of 75 and 83 while junior
Courtney Vogel is tied for 66th with rounds of 81 and 78. Junior
Carolina Sandstrom shot 76 and 84 on Monday while sophomore
Alexis Linam came in with 77 and 85.
As a team, the Lopes are in 15
th place with a 46-over total. The only other WAC team in the field is New Mexico State, which is seven strokes ahead of GCU in 11th place.
Final-round action will take place Tuesday at Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson.
