The Grand Canyon men's soccer team closes its season at home against UNLV on Saturday night. The Lopes are set to celebrate seven seniors as a part of their Senior Day festivities and host a GCU Nike Surplus Sale.
The match will be streamed live on the WAC Digital Network and GCUtv.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- HYNDMAN TO THE HALL OF FAME: GCU head coach Schellas Hyndman will be inducted into the United Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame in January. Hyndman hit a landmark win in the Lopes' season opener over Northern Kentucky, becoming the fifth Division I coach in NCAA history to earn 500 collegiate career wins. Hyndman is one of only two active DI coaches with at least 500 career wins, trailing South Carolina coach Mark Berson by nine.
- TASOURIS WINS WAC AWARD: Sophomore goalkeeper George Tasouris earned his first weekly honor of 2019 on Oct. 21, when he was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week for his sixth shutout of the season at UT Rio Grande Valley. Tasouris was named WAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and ranks in the top 100 nationally in shutouts (28th), goalie minutes played (32nd), total saves (58th) and saves per game (94th).
- SHUTOUT SQUAD: GCU has recorded a shutout in all four wins this season. The Lopes have held six opponents scoreless, three at home and three on the road. GCU ranks 51st nationally in shutout percentage (.375).
SCOUTING
UNLV is in 10th place in the WAC with a 3-6-1 conference record. The Rebels opened conference play with a three-match losing streak to UT Rio Grande Valley, CSU Bakersfield and California Baptist before tying with Seattle U on Oct. 11. The next three matches were all wins for UNLV, outscoring Incarnate Word, Kansas City and Houston Baptist. The Rebels are 0-3 in their last three matches vs. Houston Baptist at home and Utah Valley and Air Force on the road.
Senior Timo Mehlich leads the Rebels with 23 points this season. The midfielder's 11 goals are the second most in the WAC. Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Lukas Betz has started 14 of 18 matches in the goalkeeper's box, making 64 saves for a 1.93 goals against average.
UNLV leads the series between the two teams, 6-2-2. The Lopes won the last matchup against the Rebels 2-1 on the road with current sophomore

LAST TIME OUT
- GCU fell at Utah Valley 3-2 in overtime last Saturday.
