SEATTLE — The Grand Canyon women's soccer team fell 2-0 to third-seeded Kansas City in Wednesday's opening round of the WAC Tournament.
The sixth-seeded Lopes (4-14-1) were able to create chances with 10 shots for the game but only two of those shots came on goal.
Kansas City's Claire Larson scored the opening goal in the 20th minute after sneaking through the GCU back line at the top of the penalty box.
Possession changed hands multiple times in the midfield as both teams tried to gain an advantage after the Kansas City goal. The Lopes remained aggressive until the first half ended with an additional four shots.
The Roos (13-3-4) sealed the game in the 78th minute on an unassisted goal by Amanda Samson.
GCU shook up the lineup in the second half with junior defender
