The Grand Canyon women's soccer team was shut out 1-0 by WAC leader Seattle U at home Friday night.
The Lopes were unable to get the offense going most of the game with the Redhawks doubling them in shots 16-8 at GCU Stadium.
Seattle U (8-6-2, 4-0-1 WAC) took the lead in the 63rd minute off a goal scored by Bailey Hall. A cross by Leahi Manthei was redirected by Jessie Ray to Hall, who tucked the ball in the left post.
The Lopes (3-10-1, 2-2) created their best scoring chance of the night in the 82nd minute. Junior defender
Hannah Edwards took a free kick that bounced in front of the goal and off the crossbar. Larson tried a header off the deflection but it went over the goal.
In the WAC standings, Seattle regained the top spot in the conference with 14 points to move ahead of California Baptist's 13 after the Lancers' win against UT Rio Grande Valley. The Lopes slid into a tie for fifth place with CSU Bakersfield with six points.
Larson led the GCU offense with three shots and had one of the team's two shots on goals, along with freshman midfielder
Nyah Bonchonsky. Lopes head coach
Derek Leader leaned heavily on the starters with six players logging the entire 90 minutes.
GCU freshman goalkeeper
Lauren Garthwaite finished with six saves for the second straight game.
The Lopes will travel to Riverside, California, to face California Baptist on Sunday at 1 p.m. (Phoenix time).
