MOSCOW, Idaho -- The Grand Canyon women's swimming and diving team split its meet on Saturday, defeating Simon Fraser 148-143 but falling to host Idaho 174-125.Â
GCU sophomore
Marina McInelly collected two individual victories for the Lopes, winning the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 4.78 seconds and the 200 breaststroke in 2:23.16. McInelly also finished second in the 200 individual medley at 2:09.75. Â
Agueda Cons-Gestido had a strong meet for GCU, winning the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:29.50, while finishing second in the 500 freestyle (5:10.12).
Roaia Mashaly finished second in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.04. Mashaly also finished fourth in the 50 freestyle (24.18).Â
A trio of Lopes earned second-place finishes --
Brigit Van Der Vegte in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.25,
Emily Muteti in the 200 butterfly (2:09.52) and
Robyn Edwards in the 200 backstroke (2:06.58).Â
Hannah Barker finished third in the 200 backstroke (2:06.87).Â
In the 200 medley relay, Van Der Vegte, McInelly, Muteti and Diana Jarusevicite teamed to finish third with a time of 1:47.01.Â
Menna El-Midany won the 3-meter dive with a final score of 309.60, ahead of teammate
Nicole Yeakley in fifth (245.85) and Tasmin Stewert in sixth (238.70). In the 1-meter dive, El-Midany took second (285.20) with Stewert in fifth (249.90) and Yeakley in sixth (231.95).Â
The Lopes are back in action next weekend as they host UNLV on Feb. 2 for Senior Day.
