The Grand Canyon women's soccer team closes out a four-game road trip this weekend, as the Lopes face Northern Colorado on Friday night and Colorado State on Sunday afternoon. GCU is looking for its second win of the season.
Scouting GCU (1-5)
The Lopes won't return home to GCU Stadium until they host Portland State on Sept. 13. This weekend will wrap up a four-game road trip to Texas and Colorado.
Freshman forward
Remmi Deutsch scored her first career collegiate goal in the 21st minute against Texas-San Antonio. Goalkeeper
Abby Burton leads the WAC in saves (37), save percentage (82.2) and minutes played (570).
Senior midfielder
McKenzie Cook leads the WAC in shots on goal (10) and is top five in total shots (22), shots per game (3.67) and shots on goal per game (1.67).
Scouting Northern Colorado (3-3)
Last week, Northern Colorado defeated North Dakota State 1-0 and lost 2-1 to South Dakota on the road.
Earlier this week, the Bears defeated Wyoming 4-1 at home. The match against GCU will be only their third home match of the season.
The Bears started the season with a loss to Colorado College and a win against Air Force in the annual Colorado Cup. Last season, Northern Colorado went 13-7-2 and lost to Eastern Washington in the Big Sky Championship title game.
Scouting Colorado State (1-1-2)
Colorado State last played a match at home on Aug. 26 against Northern Iowa and lost 1-0. The Rams will face Eastern Washington before playing GCU on Sunday.
The Rams began the season with two draws against Denver and Colorado and a 2-1 win against Northern Colorado in the Colorado Cup. Colorado State will play the remainder of its non-conference matches at home before starting Mountain West Conference play on the road.
Last season, Colorado State went 4-10-5 and finished 11th in conference play. The Rams return 20 players, including nine starters from last season.
