SAN ANTONIO – In its fourth overtime battle in six games this season, the Grand Canyon women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Texas-San Antonio on Sunday at Park West.
Freshman forward
Remmi Deutsch netted her first career goal for the Lopes to tie the game in the first half and GCU (1-5) used its strong back line to hold the draw through the rest of regulation. The Roadrunners (3-2) scored in the 96th minute for the win.
Senior midfielder
McKenzie Cook led the Lopes in shots with two, both on frame, while senior goalkeeper
Abby Burton made four saves while facing 13 shots on the day.
UTSA got on the board first with a goal in the 17th minute, as the Roadrunners capitalized on a cross ball with a header to the back of the net.
Deutsch answered less than 10 minutes later. She fired the ball to the back of the net with a straight shot in traffic that evened the score in the 27th minute. The unassisted goal marks the first of her GCU career.
The Lopes were outshot 11-4 in regulation, while GCU had three looks on frame and the Roadrunners had five.
The Lopes return to the pitch on the road next weekend at Northern Colorado on Friday and Colorado State on Sunday.
