LOS ANGELES – The Grand Canyon men's soccer team dropped its second of two exhibition matches, falling to UCLA 2-0 on Tuesday evening.
The Bruins found the back of the net twice in the final stages of the first half. In the 35th minute, a feed from the right wing found a group of UCLA players in the box with one of them sending the header to the right corner of the net. In the 42nd minute, a cross from the left side was weakly headed into the goal for the 2-0 score.
Goalkeeper
Corey Marques and the Lopes defense held UCLA scoreless in the second half despite seven shots. Marques ended the night with six saves.
GCU spent most of the match on the defensive, getting off just four shots with one coming on goal.
Josh Drack gave GCU an early look at a score. From 30 yards out, the sophomore got a clear shot off and narrowly missed the unmanned top left corner of the frame.
Jackson Jellah was credited with GCU's only on-target attempt of the night, coming after the senior got position deep in the box in the second half.
Twenty GCU players saw action in the exhibition.
The Lopes will round out the California portion of their preseason training this week before returning to Phoenix to prepare for next Friday's season opener.
