For the first time since joining the Division I ranks, the GCU tennis team will be sending a player to compete at the ITA Masters Tournament.
Lorenzo Fucile has been invited to participate in the national collegiate fall tournament that will take place at Pepperdine University from Sept. 20-23.
"This is a great honor for Lorenzo as well as the entire men's team," head coach
Greg Prudhomme said. "Lorenzo was a big part of our men's success last year so it will be nice for him to compete at an event with the best players in the country. This is another accomplishment to add to the list of milestones that the tennis programs are earning in their climb up the DI ranks."
Along with representing GCU, Fucile will also represent the WAC in this tournament. One man and one woman from each Division I conference will participate in the event, either the reigning Player of the Year or another player selected by the ITA.
Fucile will be competing against some of the best and highest individually ranked players in the country in both a double elimination 32 player men's singles draw and in mixed doubles with the woman representative from the WAC in double elimination 32 team bracket.
Last season Fucile earned First Team All-WAC Singles honors after going 14-6 and 4-1 in conference play. In doubles Fucile competed at No. 1 all season long and went 9-6 overall and 3-2 in WAC play.
