THREE THINGS TO KNOW
- LONGEST STREAK: Dating back to the 2016 season, the Lopes have claimed 11 consecutive WAC series. That is the longest active streak in the nation. Oregon State previously held the longest streak before the Beavers' stretch of Pac-12 success was snapped in a three-game series at Utah last weekend. GCU ended the 2016 season by taking two of three on the road at UTRGV. The Lopes then won all eight of their conference series in 2017 en route to a 20-4 record and a WAC title. To start the 2018 season, the Lopes posted a home sweep over Chicago State and took two of three from Northern Colorado on the road.
Â
- THE 200 CLUB:Â In his seventh season at the helm of the GCU baseball program, head coach Andy Stankiewicz needs just two more wins to reach the 200-win plateau.
Â
- FEELING HOME AT HOME: The Lopes have won nine of their last 10 games at Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark to run their season home record to 11-7. To begin the stretch, GCU swept Penn State. The Lopes then split a mid-week series with Kansas before sweeping Chicago State. Most recently, GCU claimed both wins against UNLV in a mid-week series.

SCOUTING
In conference play, Utah Valley is the WAC's hottest offense at .356, one spot in front of GCU who is hitting .349. The Lopes and Wolverines represent the top two marks during WAC games in batting average, runs scored and hits. Utah Valley took two of three games from Northern Colorado and UTRGV to begin conference play. This is Utah Valley's first road trip in WAC play.
Utah Valley split a two-game mid-week series at home against Air Force last week. The Falcons scored nine runs in the final third of the game to double up UVU, 12-6. Utah Valley staved off another late Air Force rally to cling on to a 5-4 win.
El Camino CC transfer Ryan Eastburn leads Utah Valley with a .357 average. He made his first start on March 3 and has been a regular starter since. A trio of Wolverine veterans are in the mix in the top of the statistics with Jackson Overlund, Trevor Howell, and Trevor Peterson all hitting above .325. Sunday starter Kaden Schmitt is the reigning WAC Pitcher of the Week. The senior threw a 9.0-inning complete game at UTRGV, limiting the Vaqueros to one run on seven hits while striking out eight.
GCU won games 1 and 3 in the Lopes' final conference series of the season in 2017. The Lopes clinched at least a share of the regular season title with their Game 3 win over the Wolverines. GCU would later win the title outright. The series opener clocked in at just under 5:30 in an 11-inning game.
Ian Evans drove in the go-ahead run on a double to the gap as a part of a three-run 11th inning for GCU.
Mick Vorhof tossed 3.2 scoreless innings of relief. Utah Valley scored seven runs in the first two innings and won Game 2 9-2. GCU scored two runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to pull away late and defeat Utah Valley 10-4 in the conference finale.
Â

Â
