GCU suffers 1st conference loss
In its first home WAC match of the season, the Grand Canyon women's soccer team fell to UT Rio Grande Valley 3-0 on Friday night at GCU Stadium.
GCU (4-10, 1-1 WAC) was led offensively by sophomore forward Camryn Larson, who tallied three shots with one on goal. Lopes senior forward Sarah Inafuku and freshman forward Remmi Deutsch each added two shots.
The GCU quartet of senior midfielder McKenzie Cook, senior midfielder Brylee Hawkins, sophomore defender Hannah Edwards and freshman midfielder Carlie Bateman tallied one apiece.
The Vaqueros (8-5-1, 2-1 WAC) got on the board first with a breakaway goal behind the defense in the 13th minute and then increased the lead with a pair of goals in the second half.
The Lopes return to GCU Stadium on Sunday to play WAC newcomer California Baptist at 1 p.m. Admission to all Lopes women's soccer games is free.
