Senior goalkeeper earns 2nd award of season
Grand Canyon senior goalkeeper Abby Burton was named WACÂ Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 22-28, the conference announced Monday.
The honor is the second for Burton this season.
Burton, a Peoria, Ariz., native, helped GCU to a double-overtime draw at CSU Bakersfield on Friday. The redshirt senior made eight saves in the match, helping the Lopes (6-12-2, 3-3-2 WAC) secure a fourth-place seed heading into the WAC
tournament.
Burton has 101 saves on the season and holds a goals-against average of 1.39.
The Lopes face host Utah Valley, the No. 5 seed, at 2 p.m. (Arizona time) on Wednesday to kick off the first round of the WAC Tournament.
