LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Grand Canyon women's golf team finished the 16-team NM State Aggie Invitational in a tie for eighth place on Wednesday at the home course for New Mexico State.
The Lopes made the second biggest jump of any team in the final round, starting the day in 11
th place but finishing in a tie for eighth.
Junior
Courtney Vogel posted the team's lowest round of the tournament with a 72 in her final 18 holes. Vogel recorded four birdies during her final nine holes to card the even-par round. Sophomore
Alexis Linam, playing as an individual, recorded a 2-over 74 in her final round and finished just outside the top 30.
Texas-El Paso won the team title with an 879 score, followed by California Baptist (888), Fresno State (890) and host New Mexico State (896). Utah Valley (899), Southern Utah (902), Northern Arizona (905) were next, followed by the eighth-place tie between GCU and Oral Roberts at 908.
In the 90-player field, Vogel was the top GCU finisher in a 15
th-place tie with a 222 total. Sophomore
Siripatsorn Patchana finished in 22
nd place with a 224 total. Junior
Carolina Sandstrom tied with Linam in 33
rd place with a 228 total. Freshman
Kaylee De Jonge finished with a 234 while senior
Wendy Monfort was at 241.
GCU is back in action next week at the Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational, hosted by Seattle U. The tournament will be played on Oct. 15-16 at Tacoma Country and Golf Club in Lakewood, Wash.
