PHOENIX— GCU senior
Gregoire Balenci was named WAC Singles Player of the Week for January 16-22. Balenci earned two singles wins over the weekend that helped the Lopes earn wins over UC Riverside and UC Irvine.

Greg Prudhomme said. "He really earned this honor by winning clinching matches for his team in back-to-back matches. It is great to see Greg, as a senior, giving his best effort and tennis for the program. I am happy for him."
After a loss to UCLA on Thursday, Balenci and the team bounced back during the weekend. Against Riverside on Saturday, the Lopes were down early 1-0 after losing the doubles point. In singles, GCU won four matches, with Balenci's 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 5 clinching the match and giving the team a 4-3 win.
Against Irvine the next day, the team again was down earl 1-0 after losing the doubles point. This time in singles the Lopes won four straight matches to win 4-1. Balenci again won the clinching match at No. 5 with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win.
The Lopes after the opening weekend sit at 2-1, their next match will be at home against Western New Mexico on Feb. 3.
