NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – A first half goal from CSUN in the 38th minute made the difference in tonight's matchup in southern California, as the Grand Canyon women's soccer team dropped its first match of the weekend to the Matadors, 1-0, on Friday night at Matador Soccer Field. The Lopes dropped to 3-7-1 on the year while CSUN advanced to 4-2-4.
The Lopes tallied 10 shots on the night, including two apiece from
McKenzie Cook,
Milla Benedetti,
Kelsey Smith and
Jessica Wong.
Anyssa De Vera and
Madison Cox each added a shot as well.
CSUN outshot GCU 9-6 in the first half, leaving the Lopes to trail 1-0 heading into the break.
The Lopes continued to push in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net. Senior goalkeeper
Blakely Fraasch was solid in goal, as she registered five saves on the night.
GCU returns to the pitch on Sunday night at Cal State Fullerton. The Lopes and the Titans square off at 5 p.m.
