Baklini, Wong named Student-Athletes of the Month

Grand Canyon student-athletes have their sights set on more than just winning on the competition field. With the help of the Academic and Student-Athlete Development staff, the Lopes are looking to provide leadership in the classroom and the community in addition to their roles on their respective teams.

Each month, GCULopes.com will feature two Lopes who are excelling in all three of these important phases of college life. Congratulations to the honorees for April 2017: Susan Baklini and Jake Wong.

Susan Baklini \|\| Tennis Senior \|\| Albuquerque, N.M.	Jake Wong \|\| Baseball Sophomore \|\| Chandler, Ariz.

In the classroom Current overall GPA: 3.68 Major: Marketing	In the classroom Current overall GPA: 3.81 Major: Sports Management
In the community Baklini has volunteered at the Canyon Cares Christmas event in the Fall and the Run to Fight Children's Cancer in March.	In the community Wong has volunteered at the St. Mary's Food Bank Turkey Drive over the past few years.
On the court Baklini owns a 10-5 record at singles on the season, playing primarily on the No. 3 court. She owns victories over New Mexico State and Seattle U. Playing on the No. 1 court in doubles, she holds an 8-7 record, including a 6-2 victory over NMSU.	On the diamond Wong currently leads the WAC in ERA (1.38) and is just one of just 27 pitchers in the nation with an ERA less than 1.40. Against No. 22 Oklahoma State, he threw 6.0 innings of one-hit, shutout ball. He has earned WAC Pitcher of the Week twice this season.
