GCU ends road trip with a 6-1 win over Weber State

OGDEN, Utah – In their fourth match of the week, the GCU women's tennis team looked strong as they defeated Weber State by a score of 6-1. With the win, the Lopes improve their record to 3-4 for the season.
"The women's team finished our road trip to Utah the way that we wanted to," head coach Greg Prudhomme stated. "The tough battles that we've had this week paid off in today's match. The girls kept the fight going that they used in their close losses with the previous matches and brought it into today."
GCU swept doubles play to begin the match on a high note. In singles, freshman Emilia Occhipinti quickly won her match at No. 6 by scores of 6-2, 6-0. Lana Rinaldi also had a quick victory at No. 5, winning 6-1, 6-3 over Hasan of Weber State. Susan Baklini and Celina Buhr both won their matches in two sets to clinch the team victory for the Lopes. Alexandra Petrzalkova battled back from one set down to take the victory at No. 2. Petrzalkova defeated Pilzova of Weber State 4-6, 6-3, 6-1.
"We were able to get off to a good start when Tatum and Susie clinched the doubles point at No. 1," Prudhomme added. "We carried that momentum into singles and kept good attitudes and efforts. It's not always easy to play on the road, going from outdoor tennis to indoor tennis, but the girls adapted and are taking home the win."
The Lopes will play another home match at the GCU Tennis Facility on Friday, Feb. 24. Southern Utah will come to Phoenix for a contest at 10 a.m.
