DENVER – Grand Canyon women's soccer senior
Milla Benedetti is this week's Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office. The accolade represents the first for the forward of 2017.
Seattle U's Ashley Routh earned Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Redhawks shutout Utah Valley, 2-0.
A native of Vancouver, Washington, Benedetti helped the Lopes to a 3-0 shutout victory over CSU Bakersfield to earn GCU a berth to the 2017 WAC Tournament. Benedetti's game-winner helped the Lopes become GCU's first team to secure a berth in a postseason tournament since completing the transition to Division I status.
Benedetti ranks second on the GCU squad with nine points from four goals and an assist. The senior is tied for the lead in scoring and holds a GCU-best three game-winners on the year. She's tallied 51 shots on the year, 14 of which were on frame.
In conference play, Benedetti is the owner of two goals and an assist for five points.
The sixth-ranked Lopes face #3 UTRGV in the first round of the WAC Tournament on Wednesday, November 1 at 7 p.m. at the GCU Soccer Stadium.
