SEATTLE, Wash. – The Grand Canyon men's and women's track & field teams completed Day 2 of the Washington Invitational with several Western Athletic Conference leading performances.
Marcus Flannigan finished second in the meet with a conference leading 7.43 meters in the long jump.
With more than a thousand athletes competing in the UW Invitational, the Lopes were off to the races, recording several conference-leading times and marks and four school records. In one of the most marquee indoor events in the NCAA, the Lopes competed against a number of high-caliber teams, including: California, Pepperdine, Oregon State, Cal Poly, Gonzaga, Stanford, Idaho, Washington and WAC-foe Seattle U.
Day 2 notables:
Marcus Flannigan finished second in the long jump with a WAC-leading leap of 7.43m (24-4.5). Flannigan fell just one centimeter short of first-place finisher Robbie Gallaugher.
Bailie Jones set a conference-leading time of 2:15.57 in the 800-meter run.
Tope Williams recorded a 7.64 in the 60-meter dash to place first in the WAC.

Anthony Phelps recorded a time of 48.87 to place 10th out of 43 runners in the 400-meter dash. Phelp's 400-meter performance with a time of 47.83 at the NAU Friday Night Duels ranks the junior first in the WAC.
Grant Carpenter (4,685) and
Timmy Johnson (4,665) placed sixth and seventh in the men's heptathlon, respectively. Both scores place Carpenter and Johnson atop the WAC.
Adam Turner finished 10th with a score of 4,487.
Jude Olear placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.82m (48-7.5). The mark ranks Olear second in the conference just behind UMKC's Richard Smith (15.31m).
Alexandra Gilbert recorded 58.84 in the 400-meter dash, tying for second in the conference with CSUB's Marina Emhoff.
Scott Marshall finished fourth in pole vault with a mark of 5.26 meters. The mark would be second in the WAC only behind his own GCU record 5.30m set at the Friday Night Duels.
During Day 1, four GCU records were broken, including: women's 3,000-meter (
Paige Hildebrandt), women's 5,000-meter (
Kelsi Klotter) and the men's 5,000-meter twice within an hour of each other (
Jose Retana Ceballos and
