PHOENIX -Â The Grand Canyon women's soccer team landed two on the Preseason All-Western Athletic Conference team as juniors
Milla Benedetti and
Blakely Fraasch were named to the preseason squad for the second-straight year.

"It's definitely a nice honor for Milla and Blakely to be recognized by the other coaches in the conference," head coach
Derek Leader said. "They both worked very hard over the summer. They have arrived back on campus as leaders, motivated and willing to work very hard."

Benedetti, a junior forward from Vancouver, Wash., led the team last season with 16 points, seven goals and 28 shots on goal . She also started 18-19 matches.

Fraasch, enters her third season as GCU's goal keeper. In 2015, Fraasch and her backline combined for 1.61 goals against average and finished in the top five in the conference. They also produced three shutouts on the year. Fraasch also garnered WAC Freshman of the Year accolades in 2014.

The Lopes will also start the 2016 campaign ranked fifth as voted on by the Preseason Women's Soccer Coaches Poll the WAC announced Wednesday. Just two weeks shy of the season opener at Eastern Washington, the Lopes round out the top five in the preseason poll with 27 points, including a second place vote. With a new coaching staff, the Lopes are looking to start the season on a high note.

GCU will face UC Riverside on Saturday Aug. 13 in their lone exhibition match of the season. The Lopes will open the 2016 campaign at Eastern Washington on Friday, Aug. 19.
