Phoenix, AZ – The GCU women's tennis team evened their record at 3-3 for the season with a win over Western New Mexico on Thursday, Feb. 4. The Lopes defeated the Mustangs 6-1.
"It was a good team win for both the men and the women," head coach Greg Prudhomme said. "We added some confidence and got another win on the board."
Grand Canyon swept the doubles matches in dominating fashion. The pair of
Marie Deleval and
Sofia Helgstrand earned the first victory of the day for the Lopes, winning 6-2 at No. 3 doubles. They were quickly followed by wins by
Tatum Prudhomme and
Susan Baklini at No. 1 and
Lana Macukat and
Lana Rinaldi at No. 2. GCU jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead with the sweep.
Alexandra Petrzalkova made quick work of Gemma Goodland at No. 2 to garner the first singles point for GCU. Rinaldi, Baklini, Macukat, and Prudhomme all won their matches in two sets to clinch the victory for the Lopes.
"The girls will have the weekend off and a week of practice before they hit the road again against Idaho State and Utah State," Prudhomme said.
GCU travels to Pocatello, Idaho to face Idaho State on Saturday, Feb. 13 and then will continue on to Logan, Utah for a match with Utah State on Sunday, Feb. 14.
