PHOENIX – Reigning WAC Coach of the Year Greg Prudhomme announced the signing of incoming fres
hman Freddie Grant to the men's tennis team on Tuesday, Nov. 29. Grant hails from Guildford, England and will be attending GCU next fall.
"We are really excited to be adding Freddie to the GCU tennis family," Prudhomme commented. "He is a perfect fit for the tennis program, the athletic department, and the overall culture on the GCU campus."
Grant has been playing tennis since age five and currently attends the Culford School in England where he helped his team to a third place finish at the National Schools Tennis Championships this year. Grant is the first athlete in school history to be named a first team player in soccer, rugby, hockey, golf, cricket, and tennis.
One year ago, Grant began playing internationally and has a current World Junior Ranking of 572. In August, he reached the final of both the singles and doubles in the ITF Grade 4 held in Mauritius. He's also ranked 27th nationally in the UK in the U18 field.
"Freddie is a great kid who studies hard in the classroom and works hard on the tennis court," Prudhomme add
ed. "We know that he will bring a lot to the team in the way of team spirit and ability. His athleticism is at a high level from the multiple sports he has played growing up and his junior tennis world ranking in the 500s shows his ability to compete at a high level. We are looking forward to seeing Freddie on campus and in a Lopes uniform in the fall."
"I'm really excited at the prospect of joining GCU and becoming a Lope," Grant said. "I'm looking forward to spending the next four years in such an amazing location and making lots of new friends."
