GCU falls to Princeton

PHOENIX – The Grand Canyon women's tennis team hosted its first match of the season at home this year and they welcomed to town Princeton. The Tigers came into the match ranked No. 43 in the nation and the Lopes feel to the defending Ivy League champion 7-0. GCU is now 2-3 this season.
"The ladies have a tough match today," head coach Greg Prudhomme said after the match. "A lot of the teams we have on the schedule this year are in the same category as Princeton, with strong national rankings because that's what we are working on becoming."
GCU's lone win on the day came in the first match completed against the Tigers as Tatum Prudhomme and Susan Baklini represented GCU well on the court. On the No. 1 court in doubles, the duo of Prudhomme and Baklini were able to take down Princeton's Amanda Muliawan and Dorothy Tang 6-3.
"In order to become a team like this we have beat these teams and the ladies competed and responded to the competition," Prudhomme said. "We have the tools to compete at this level and it showed during doubles."
Prudhomme and Baklini have been impressive early this season as they improve to a perfect 5-0 in doubles this season. The GCU duo could not have asked for a better start to the season as they have not allowed their opponent to record more than three sets in a match this season.
In singles, Princeton swept all six singles matches to come away with the 7-0 win. GCU will be back in action next Friday, Feb. 5, when the Lopes host Western New Mexico.
