RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Grand Canyon women's tennis team couldn't have asked for a better way to finish its first weekend of play on the road against UC Riverside. The Lopes won all nine matches against Highlanders for the 7-0 sweep for the Lopes first victory of the season.

"Today was a great bounce back win after a tough fought match yesterday," head coach Greg Prudhomme said. "This was a great way to start the season and we can see the ladies improving already early this season. We went over a few things yesterday and they applied them on the court today."

GCU swept all three doubles matches in order to start the match with the 1-0 lead. Tatum Prudhomme and Susan Baklini capped off a perfect 2-0 weekend on court one in doubles by defeating Karla Dulay and Tamilla Vaksman 6-0. Alexandra Petrzalkova and Kylie Waschuk clinched the doubles point on court two with the 6-1 victory. GCU's Lana Macukat and Lana Rinaldi completed the doubles sweep with the tight 7-5 victory on court three.

Grand Canyon was able to build off the momentum in doubles and headed into singles by winning all six matches. Prudhomme picked up her first win in singles of the season with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Chloe Pham. Petrzalkova was dominant in her win on court two over Tracy Van 6-1, 6-3 and Baklini went 2-0 this weekend in singles with the 6-2, 6-2 victory over Karla Dulay.

Macukat went 2-0 this weekend in singles on court five after defeating Caroline Hall 6-1, 6-0 and would clinch the match for the Lopes against the Highlanders. Rinaldi won her first singles match of the season on court five with the 6-0, 6-2 win on court five over Arabella Valera. In her first singles match of the season, Marie Deleval pulled out a three-set victory over Natalie Penner on court six. After dropping the first set 6-3, Deleval rallied in the final two sets to come away with the 6-1, 10-4 victory.
