FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The GCU women's tennis team improved their record to 2-1 with a win over the Colorado State Rams on Saturday, Jan. 23. The Lopes defeated the Rams 7-0.
"There was great attitude and effort on all courts today in the singles and doubles," head coach Greg Prudhomme said. "This year we are talking a lot about belief and believing that helped us get through some of our tougher matches today."
Grand Canyon began the match with a 1-0 lead after winning the first two doubles matches.
Tatum Prudhomme and
Susan Baklini defeated Aina Hernandez Soler and Madison Porter 6-1 for the first win of the day.
Alexandra Petrzalkova and
Marie Deleval then won 6-4 over Emily Kolbow and Celine Voss. Deleval filled in at the last minute to help the Lopes clench the victory.
Prudhomme continued her winning ways with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Petralkova, Baklini, and
Lana Macukat also were victorious in their matches. All four matches were won in two sets.
Coach Prudhomme noted the importance of the win and the necessity to prepare for the team's next match on Sunday, Jan. 24 vs. Air Force.
"We will have a quick turn around after playing a late match tonight. That is what we train for," Prudhomme said. "The hours in the weight room and on court practice prepares us for situations like this."
