Women’s tennis set for first two matches of the season

PHOENIX – The season has arrived for the Grand Canyon women's tennis team and to begin the season GCU will head out to California. In their first two matches of the season, the Antelopes will face UC Irvine and then head to UC Riverside to close out the weekend.
Grand Canyon is coming off an impressive 2015 season where they ended the regular season in first place in the Western Athletic Conference with a perfect 5-0 record. GCU ended 2015 with an 11-6 record and proved to be road warriors posting a perfect 7-0 record on the road. GCU head coach Gregory Prudhomme was named 2015 WAC Coach of the Year after having coached WAC Player of the Year Priscilla Annoual racking up eight All-WAC honorees in 2015.
The Lopes have to replace a lot of wins after last season but 2015 All-WAC Second Team honoree in singles Lana Macukat and All-WAC First Team honoree in doubles Alexandra Petrzalkova return to lead the team this season. After an impressive Fall season in 2015, Susan Baklini was named WAC Player of the Month on Dec. 1, 2015 after going undefeated in singles during the month of November.
