Live StatsLive VideoPHOENIX – The Grand Canyon University women's volleyball team will continue their competition in the Western Athletic Conference with two matches this week. The first will be against Seattle U on Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Seattle, Wash., and the second will be on Oct. 3 in Orem, Utah at 12 p.m.
The Lopes opened their conference slate with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Bakersfield last weekend in GCU Arena.
Megan Byrnes had a competitive afternoon, tallying 18 kills off of 45 attempts for a .378 hitting percentage for her best match so far this season. Not far behind,
Jordyn Sanchez recorded 15 kills and a total of five blocks—two of which were solo.
Gracie Dimond earned three solo blocks of her own as well as three block assists. Additionally, she earned eight kills off of 20 attempts with no errors for a .400 hitting percentage.
Scouting Seattle UThe Redhawks have a 10-5 record, including a 2-0 record in conference play. They earned a five set win over UMKC in their first conference match, before earning the 3-0 sweep over Chicago State. Jelena Vujcin earned 18 kills against UMKC while Iris Ivanis recorded 18 against Chicago State.
The team tallied 64 kills, 69 digs, 61 assists, and 12 blocks in their five-set match. During the match against Chicago State, they picked up an additional 58 kills and 51 assists, as well as 10 service aces—three of which were snagged by Martina Samadan.
Scouting Utah ValleyUtah Valley swept Chicago State 3-0 in their first conference match before falling in five sets to UMKC. Lauren Bakker led in kills for both matches—12 against the Cougars (.500) and 14 against the Roos (.323). Bakker also led in blocks, tallying a total of 13 between the two games.
