ORLANDO – The Grand Canyon men's soccer team took its three-match winning streak to the east coast for a matchup against Central Florida. The Knights scored two goals and UCF snapped the Antelope's three-match winning streak with a 2-1 loss. GCU is now 3-2 this season.
The match was looking like it was going into halftime scoreless but in the 34th minute Central Florida was able to get its first goal of the game off a goal from Jacov Basic. Four minutes into the second half the Knights would tack on a second goal with a strike from Matias Pyysalo.
Grand Canyon struggled to find a rhythm offensively putting up only six shots for the match. GCU's defense only allowed nine shots the entire game and in the second half the Knight's offense was only able to get off two shots. Jose Rodriguez Nieblas was the only Lope to fire off more than one shot.
GCU tried to make a late comeback scoring in the 68th minute with a goal from Alberto Sanchez Garcia. The senior was able to get off a chip shot from the left wing that would find the inside of the far post for his third goal of the season.
Grand Canyon will take the rest of the weekend off from play before they are back in action a week from tonight, Sept. 25, on the road against Pacific.
