Live StatsThe season has arrived for the Grand Canyon women's volleyball team and the Antelopes will travel to Nebraska to participate in the Nebraska Invite beginning on Aug. 28 against Pittsburgh. The Lopes will then play a double header on Aug. 29 to close out the invite against the No. 5 ranked team in the country, Nebraska, and then Tulsa in their final match.
This is the first of five tournaments Grand Canyon will participate in throughout the season and the first of four back-to-back tournaments to kick off the season. GCU is coming off an impressive 2014 season where the squad went 21-11 overall with a 6-8 record during conference play. Grand Canyon added five new players this season and have been picked to finish sixth in the WAC this season while sophomore
Natalie Tardy was named to the preseason All-WAC Team. Tardy is coming off an exceptional freshman campaign where she was named WAC Freshman of the Year posting 3.58 kills per set and was third in the WAC in points with 4.06 per set.
Scouting PittsburghThe Panthers return a deep and talented squad with eight returners along with six new freshman. Last season Pitt finished with a 25-6 record, going 13-5 in conference. Pittsburgh's top returner is senior Amanda Orchard as she was the first player at Pitt to receive All-American honors since 2011 setting a school record with a .431 kill percentage. These will be the first matches of the season for the Panthers.
Scouting NebraskaNebraska is coming off an appearance in the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament and are currently ranked fifth in the AVCA preseason top-25 coach's poll. In 2014 the Cornhuskers finished with a 23-10 record and a third straight trip to an NCAA regional final. Nebraska returns two-time All-American Kadie Rolfzen as well as All-Big Ten honoree Kelsey Fien as an outside hitter.
Scouting TulsaTulsa won 22 matches last year, winning 14 of their last 16 matches. Top returner is Erica Bohannon who made the American Athletic Conference First-Team with a career high 472 kills and 31 service aces. Bohannon was named to the American Athletic Conference preseason All-Conference Team. Tulsa was ranked No. 49 in Prep Volleyball's Preseason Top 50 and are picked to finish fourth in the American Athletics Conference preseason poll.
