Blakely Fraasch were named to the Preseason All-WAC Team along with Monterroso.
"It is always great for the talent on our team recognized by our peers in the conference," said Gill. "At the end of the day though I'll take a conference win any day over individual accolades."
Grand Canyon received 39 points in the polls behind the defending champions, Seattle U. After the women were picked to finish fifth in the preseason poll, the Lopes exceeded expectations with a tie for third place. This season, Grand Canyon is the only team to have three players make the Preseason All-WAC Team with two forwards and a goalkeeper. Monterroso led GCU last season with 17 points with eight goals along with an assist. The forward earned First Team All-WAC honors last season and will look to build off an impressive sophomore campaign.
Benedetti was second on the team last season with 14 points scoring seven goals. Fraasch returns as the 2014 WAC Freshman of the Year posting a 1.41 goals against average with a 76.8 save percentage and is one of two goalkeepers to make the All-WAC Preseason Team.
GCU will step on the pitch for the first time this season in their annual Purple vs. White scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. in Prescott, Ariz.
