Mather Selected All-MIVA For Third Time

For the third time in his GCU career, junior Ryan Mather was selected to the All-Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association second team, announced Thursday by the league office.
Voted on by the nine MIVA coaches, Mather was selected in 2012 and 2013 as a middle hitter. He missed the 2014 season due to injury and moved to outside hitter in 2015.
This season, Mather leads the MIVA in total kills with 354, is fourth in the league in kills per set at 3.69 and ranks eighth in service aces (0.36). In conference matches, he is second in service aces (0.58) and fourth in kills per set (3.58). Earlier this year, he had 30 kills in a win over Saint Francis. It was the most kills by a GCU player in program history for a five-set match.
"It's an honor and testament for his work in rehabbing his knee injury that kept him out in 2014," said GCU coach Jeremy Price. "For him to make All-MIVA, after being out and going to a different position, shows his true ability and versatility as a player."
Mather and the Lopes hope to extend their season Saturday, opening play in the first round of the MIVA Tournament at top-seed Lewis, ranked No. 1 in the nation. The match begins at 5 p.m. Arizona time. Fans can follow live stats and live video with links at www.gculopes.com.
