GCU scored three runs in the second on four singles and a walk.
Rouric Bridgewater, who finished the game with three hits, had a RBI single, as did teammate
Humberto Aranda.
Paul Panaccione tripled and scored on a sac fly by
Chad De La Guerra to the Lopes up 4-0 in the sixth.
GCU put the game away with a five-run eighth. De La Guerra's two-run single in the inning brought the game to an end based on the conference 10-run rule.
As a team, the Antelopes are batting .385 (57-for-148) over the past four games.
"We were 5-for-5 with runners on third base today with less than two outs," said head coach Andy Stankiewicz. "That is efficient offense and that was what we were able to do today. We showed some good compete today in those at bats."
Bruns picked up his fourth complete game of the season, surrendering only four hits in the shutout win. He fanned one and walked one.
"Coley has been the model of consistency," added Stankiewicz. "We needed that and hopefully our young pitchers can learn from the job he has done. When you watch him, he is not overpowering, yet he forces contact and is not afraid to attack hitters. He has the right mentality and understands who he is as a pitcher."
The two teams will complete the three game series tomorrow with a game at 12 p.m. The game can be found on radio at KXXT 1010 AM (also via the KXXT TuneIn Radio App), the home of Antelope men's basketball and baseball. Live stats are available at www.gculopes.com.
