GCU pounded out 15 hits, getting three each from
Paul Panaccione,
Brandon Smith and
Garrison Schwartz. Panaccione helped close it out with a three-run home run in the seventh. Schwartz had a key two-run double in a seven-run first inning.
"The three-run home run gave us a chance to exhale," said GCU coach Andy Stankiewicz. "We were out in front, but we never felt comfortable the way they were swinging the bats."

Andrew Naderer,
Zebastian Valenzuela picked up the victory throwing 4.2 innings, relinquishing just three hits and one run.
Ruben Rincon wrapped it up with 2.2 innings of work, fanning three and giving up one hit.
"It was a good win and our bullpen came in and did a nice job," added Stankiewicz. "Zabastian bridged the gap and that was good for him. He's feeling better and pitching better and we'll need him down the stretch. Ruben came in and did a nice job throwing strikes.
"We played really good defense, ran some balls down in the outfield, made some plays in the infield," added the coach. "You have to have that when you give up too many freebies."
GCU pitching gave up nine walks.
The Lopes answered Northern Colorado's one-run first inning with seven in the bottom half. The Bears were on their third pitcher before retiring the first GCU batter. Schwartz and
Rouric Bridgewater had back-to-back doubles. Smith and
Greg Saenz each had RBI-singles. GCU's first four hitters drew walks. There were five walks in the inning.
"It wasn't real pretty in the beginning for either team, but we were able to jump on them early and take advantage of some freebies," said Stankiewicz.
The Bears cut it 7-3 in the second, before the Lopes added insurance with two in the sixth and Panaccione's homer in the seventh.
