The Grand Canyon University women's tennis team (3-7) cruised to a 7-0 win over visiting Valparaiso (1-7) Tuesday at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Ariz. The Antelopes only lost a total of 19 games in nine matches en route to securing the victory over the Crusaders.
"The girls hit the ground running today," said head coach Greg Prudhomme. "They definitely showed the experience they've gained from the batch of tough matches we played in Hawaii and before that. They got on top of Valparaiso early on all of the courts and they never looked back and kept the momentum going into singles. We got a bunch of first sets and most of them finished off the second set stronger."
Priscilla Annoual and
Tatum Prudhomme teamed up to earn an 8-0 victory in doubles, while pairs
Silvia Tumova and
Alexandra Petrzalkova and
Lana Rinaldi and
Lana Rinaldi notched 8-2 wins.
GCU continued its strong doubles play into the singles matches, as each of Canyon's individuals recorded straight-set wins.
"It was definitely a great day for the women's tennis team and we will hit the practice courts this week and next week and get ready for a tough match with Marquette next Thursday," concluded Prudhomme.
The Lopes will welcome Marquette for a match on March 12 at the Paseo Racquet Center. Fans can find more information on the tennis season at
