The Grand Canyon University men' tennis team (9-8) snagged a 5-2 victory over Chicago State (4-13) today in Edinburg, Tex. It marked their second conference win of the season.
"The guys did a great job of bouncing back today after a hard fought match last night," said head coach Greg Prudhomme. "Since we had the quick turnaround and that mental sting of losing, it was good to come out and earn the win."
Adrian Legarreta picked up his 13
th-consecutive singles win with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Christian Gonzalez.
On the first court,
Felix Schueller pushed his record to 10-4 with a straight sets triumph against Mario Noboa.
Meidy Chazeau also defeated Rashley Yeremia 6-1, 6-3 for his tenth win of the season. Rounding out the singles victories, was
Philip Kuehnen with the shutout win on court five.
In doubles, the Lopes went 2-1 against the Cougars. Schueller and
Alexander Roggenkamp won 8-3 on court two for their 10
th win of the spring, while Chazeau and
Gregoire Balenci earned their fifth consecutive on court three.
"The guys did a great job of getting the doubles point and we earned our four points pretty quick with wins by Philip, Meidy, and Felix," Prudhomme explained. "The guys did a great job. We lost a couple in the lineup but also won with Adrian match for our fifth point."
"It was good to get another win in conference," concluded Prudhomme. "We'll have another quick turnaround and then have a morning match tomorrow against New Mexico State that we're looking forward to being another tough fight."
