Senior posted qualifying mark in long jump
Brianne Kee, a member of the GCU women's track and field team, has qualified for the 2015 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. The marquee event will be held this weekend in Boston, Mass.
"I am very happy for Bri to have qualified for the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships," said head coach Tom Flood. "It is a well-earned accomplishment and she will represent GCU track and field very well. Bri has had to compete unattached this indoor season (she has exhausted all of her indoor collegiate eligibility); to finally jump over 20' and qualify for a national indoor championships is quite an achievement."
Kee posted a qualifying mark in the long jump last weekend at the NAU Tune-Up in Flagstaff, recording a leap of 6.12 meters, while competing unattached. Kee, who red-shirted during last year's outdoor season, will compete for the Antelopes during the 2015 outdoor campaign. The senior was the 2014 WAC Indoor Long Jump Champion and placed second at the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships in the same event in 2013.
The long jump competition is slated to get underway on Saturday, Feb. 28. For more information on this weekend's event, including the complete schedule of events, fans can click here.
"I am really excited to have her back with us for the outdoor season!" added Flood. "She will be a difference maker for us as we try and win an outdoor conference title too!"
The 2015 outdoor track and field season will get underway for the Lopes on March 20 when Canyon heads to Tucson, Ariz., for the two-day Willie Williams Invitational.
