The Grand Canyon University men's tennis team (3-3) won their match over the Citadel (2-8) at the Academy Indoor Tennis Courts in Colorado Springs, Colo.
"Today's win for the men was particularly good because of how much physical and emotional energy they left on the court last night," explained head coach Greg Prudhomme. "We finished late last night and we had to get back on the court this morning against the Citadel. The guys did a great job of mustering up their energy and their intensity like they did last night."
The Lopes earned the doubles point over the Bulldogs with
Alexander Roggenkamp and
Felix Schueller picking up their fourth straight win and
Meidy Chazeau and
Gregoire Balenci earning their third straight.
"They had another close doubles point that came down to court number two again with Alex and Felix," Prudhomme said. "They did a great job of breaking the serve to get up 7-6 and clench the doubles point."
In singles, Grand Canyon won all of their matches in straight sets.
Adrian Legarreta,
Philip Kuehnen, and Roggenkamp all earned their third consecutive singles victories, while Schueller picked up his fourth straight. Ounanian competed in his first singles match of the spring to complete the 7-0 win.
"All four of the first singles matches started off pretty close," Prudhomme explained. Â "We got off to some quick starts in yesterday's match but today the guys might have been feeling it a little bit from last night. They did a good job of coming on strong at the end of the first sets to close it out though. That momentum carried onto the fifth and sixth matches and we got all seven points.
"It was good to get the win," Prudhomme concluded. "After what we went through last night and having the quick turn around this morning made this win extra good."
