GCU Sports Medicine Volunteers at Charles Schwab Championship Cup

From the early and cool brisk mornings to the radiating sun shining afternoons stood a team of familiar faces that walk GCU campus. But this time those faces had a change of scenery.

Instead of long days in the clinic or the classroom, GCU's Sports Medicine staff, Athletic Training education faculty, and Athletic Training students were asked to step away from helping their athletes, educating their students, and studying at their clinical site, and bring their practice to the PGA Tour's Charles Schwab Cup Championship as volunteers in the tournament's first aid tent.

Taking place at Desert Mountain Golf Club in Scottsdale Arizona for the tournament, the GCU Sports Medicine team, along with volunteer GCU nursing students and faculty and Scottsdale Fire Department worked together to keep the thousands of volunteers and spectators safe and attend to their abrasions from falling on we rocks, assist them when falling on the many cacti surrounding the beautiful golf course, attend the occasional heat illness, the occasional mishit golf ball in to the crowd, among other emergency situations.

The Charles Schwab Cup Championship was held on November 4^th through November 8^th. It has been played in Scottsdale in 2012, 2014, and 2015.

GCU Sports Medicine looks forward to any opportunity it has to volunteer in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
