DENVER – After finishing in fourth place, which would have qualified for this week's Western Athletic Conference Championships, the Grand Canyon women's soccer team has placed three women on the All-WAC teams. Cassie Beckwith, McKenzie Cook and Madison Cox were named Second Team All-WAC.
Beckwith was a steady force up-top for the Antelopes this season, scoring five goals along with an assist for 11 points, the second highest point total on the team. Beckwith started the season with a bang, sending the first match of the season into overtime, scoring a goal late in regulation against Northern Arizona that would lead to eventual win over the Lumberjacks for the first time in school history. The senior ended her career at GCU with 10 career goals.
Stepping in as a freshman, Cook was a force putting up 51 shots, the third most on GCU's roster this season. Cook played in all 19 matches this season, scoring two goals along with an assist for five points. Cook scored her first goal of the season in the fourth match of the season against Oakland in a 2-2 tie and recorded her final goal of the season at Utah Valley.
Coming in as a sophomore transfer, Madison Cox was exactly what head coach Stevie Gill and the coaching staff needed in the backline. The transfer from Tampa, Fla. Started in all 19 matches and was a part of a defense that recorded three shutouts. As a center back, Cox scored three goals this season including the first goal of the season against NAU and two game-winning goals against Texas Rio Grande Valley and Utah Valley.
Grand Canyon has now had seven All-WAC honorees in the past two seasons under Gill.
